We’re hiring!
GRANTS ACCOUNT MANAGER (CLIENT LEAD)
Coastal Nonprofit Consulting | San Diego County, CA (Remote) | $70K–$80K
We're building a different kind of consulting firm.
Most nonprofit consulting stops at the plan. The research gets done. The strategy gets written. And then it sits on a shelf while the team goes back to the day-to-day.
We built Coastal Nonprofit Consulting to close that gap.
We don't just deliver strategy. We stay and help implement it. We don't chase every opportunity. We focus on the ones that are truly competitive. We don't build plans that live in someone's head. We build systems that outlast the people who created them.
Our work is designed to create momentum early and compound over time, so organizations aren't starting over every time there’s organizational turnover.
We're a small, growing firm, and this role is not just about managing work. It's about stepping into leadership, owning outcomes, and helping shape how we grow.
-
This is a client-facing role where you'll manage a portfolio of approximately 3–5 nonprofit clients across the arts & culture, education, and STEM sectors.
You'll lead day-to-day grant work, build funding pipelines, and develop strong client relationships. You'll grow into full ownership of strategy and begin leading within a team "hub" structure. You'll be trusted to think, prioritize, and guide our clients towards funding success.
-
Serve as the primary point of contact for your clients
Write and submit strong, strategic grant proposals and LOIs
Build and manage funding pipelines aligned with client goals
Conduct and synthesize prospect research to identify aligned funding opportunities and inform client funding strategy
Collaborate with clients to gather program, financial, and impact information
Develop and align grant budgets that support competitive proposals
Track deadlines, submissions, and reporting requirements
Maintain organized systems across all client work
Collaborate with contract writers during high-volume periods
Represent Coastal Nonprofit Consulting in client and external settings, including occasional in-person meetings, events, or networking opportunities
-
This role is:
Client-facing and relationship-driven
A blend of strategy and hands-on execution
Fast-paced, but grounded in thoughtful, high-quality work
A leadership role with ownership over client outcomes
An opportunity to build systems and processes that create long-term impact
This role is not:
A high-volume grant writing shop where output matters more than quality
A purely administrative or task-based position
A role where you wait to be told what to do
A short-term or transactional role focused only on output rather than long-term client and firm growthoes here
-
We primarily work with organizations in the arts & culture, education, and STEM sectors, as well as other community-based nonprofits.
Experience in or a genuine interest in these fields is required.
-
3-5 years of progressive grant writing and institutional fundraising experience, preferably in a consulting or client-facing environment
Demonstrated track record of securing significant foundation, corporate, and government funding with measurable ROI
Strong writing and storytelling skills
Experience managing multiple projects and deadlines
Comfort working with program budgets and financial information
Strong communication skills and confidence working with clients
A proactive, ownership-oriented mindset
Openness to using tools and technology (including AI) to work efficiently
-
Experience developing and managing nonprofit budgets, designing programs, and implementing evaluation frameworks
Deep knowledge of California's institutional funding landscape, including key foundations, corporate giving programs, and government funding streams
Client or Funder relationship management experience
Experience securing $25K–$250K+ grants
CRM or grant tracking experience
2-3 years of leadership or mentorship experience
-
Like owning your work and managing your own projects
Enjoy building relationships with clients
Prefer thoughtful, strategic work over constant urgency
Are organized and naturally detail-oriented
Are adaptable and open to evolving how you work
Are motivated to build relationships within the California nonprofit community and contribute to meaningful, local impact
-
You'll work directly with organizations doing meaningful, community-centered work
You'll manage your own portfolio and build real client relationships
You'll step into a leadership role with the opportunity to grow your scope, influence, and team leadership over time
You'll be part of a small, collaborative team where your voice and ideas matter
You'll work in an environment that values clarity, strategy, and sustainable workflows
-
Remote, with occasional in-person client or funder meetings as needed within San Diego County
Full-time, exempt
$70,000–$80,000 salary commensurate with experience
-
Health insurance, or employer contribution toward medical coverage
15 days of paid time off annually, plus paid holidays, with increases based on tenure
Flexible, remote work environment
Professional development budget for courses, certifications, or conferences
Opportunities to grow your scope, influence, and leadership as the company expands
