Doug Oliphant

COO/Principal

Doug brings 7 years of on-the-ground experience in development departments that raised between $2.5M and $11M annually, establishing expertise in major gift solicitation, prospect pipeline development, annual fund campaign strategy, and operations. He is driven by a deep belief in nonprofits' ability to unite communities and transform lives, and the philanthropic people who make it all possible.

Professional background: Doug’s 20 years as an actor, director, and fundraiser in theatre taught him the complexities of people, and 7 of those years spent working on development teams have helped him connect people with an organization’s bottom line. From entering and acknowledging gifts to making major gift solicitations and leading teams, he understands the challenges of fundraising, and how to overcome them.

What he loves about his work: Doug is in it for the people. Nothing brings him more joy than seeing people succeed—leaders achieving their organization’s mission, donors investing in a cause they are passionate about, and teams reaching peak performance in an environment they thrive in.

Outside of Coastal Nonprofit: Doug led philanthropy operations at The Old Globe Theatre in San Diego’s Balboa Park during a year-and-a-half-long leadership transition, achieving an overall increase in contributed revenue despite years of stagnation. He is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals’ San Diego chapter, and has had his testimony for donor research software iWave published on their website.

When not working, you can find him outside–working out at 6am, biking along the ocean, paddleboarding, snowboarding, or building a project in my backyard, with my wife, kids, and dogs by my side whenever possible. If I’m not outside, I’m deep exploring every inch of the map of a new video game!

Fun fact: As a theatre director in college, Doug won a distinguished award from The Kennedy Center, and spent years choreographing stage fights, juggling, and unicycling!
